  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Amazon Customer -- “The Guilty Parents - Screen Kids: A Reassuring Guide”…That Does Reassure : This well-written though repetitive guide on how to use screens and screentime productively is excellent reading for anyone dealing with those generations of people just growing up, coming into contact as very young children, teenagers and beyond, with all that technology has to offer. Taking a very commonsense view of topics like sex and violence and successfully defeating the argument that screentime turns children into criminals (indicating family, nature and nurture as of far greater, far more paramount importance in helping children become socially responsible), this book does reassure and offers great consolation to those parents and to other adults involved in helping children grow up. When Orwell prophesied that we would not be going anywhere except where our screens are, his message was dire. Instead, the book under review offers constructive advice on how to use the internet and also consoles those adults who feel inadequate. It clarifies by pointing out simple things – like decisions being ours, not Blah-Blah-Blah’s. However, the book is American or developed world, and unfortunately much of its hard-won wisdom is just not around in Africa, Asia and south America. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from John Hope -- Decent Parental Guidebook : Decent parental guidebook providing pitfalls and benefits “screen time” (more pitfalls than benefits), and techniques for parents to redirect kids to other non-screen activities. The author does get a little preachy, but this may actually set well with most folks who unanimously agree that kids spend way too much time in front of screens. I do like that this book assumes that such technology is unavoidable and parenting around these devices rather than completely against them is the better approach. • 4.0 out of 5 stars from E -- Well researched and informative : I didn't agree with everything in here, but there was a lot of good information worth thinking about. I did like the idea of parents going a little easier on themselves. I will be recommending this to my sister, I know she'd find it interesting as well. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Jan Goshorn -- Parents, you’ll be okay and so will your children : I am so thankful I am not parenting children in this day and age. Traversing the pitfalls of screen time and fear of allowing children to become lazy or antisocial is real. John and Kimberly talk candidly about kids and screen time. They have a lot of knowledge and use a variety of supporting research. ( Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Jami Kobold -- Reassuring : This is a great book to read, lots of facts and reassurance about screen time and expectations. I feel like a failure as a mother so often when I allow my children "too much" screen time so I can get things done or at appointments to keep them occupied, this book helped ease my nerves and feel better about my choices when it comes to screen time.
